January 1998. The last and only time I have ever lived in the snow. Sure, I’ve been to the snow dozens of times and even been in snowstorms. But today, my 18 year streak finally ended!

I’ve been living in Heidelberg for the past five months and have yet to experience a good snowstorm. Not a blizzard, just some snow that sticks and makes me feel like I’m actually living somewhere where it snows. After living in California my whole life, I welcome the snow.

This morning, I woke up to a fresh blanket of snow covering the town (and the hill outside my room). It was absolutely breathtaking, not to mention cold! It took a while for me to get out of bed but once I did, I had no problem taking pictures to document this monumental moment.

We might look like we were on a walk in the (snowy) park, but it was barely 25 degrees! Two of our friends locked us outside on the terrace, so we were very thankful when we returned to the warmth inside.
